The Refugees Bill, 2019 was developed to respond to the current context of refugee management in the country. The proposed legislation was assented to by His excellency the President of Kenya on 17th November 2021. The law reaffirms commitment by Government of Kenya to offer protection to refugees in line with the UN Convention relating to the status of refugees and the OAU Convention. The Refugees Act, 2021, gives effect to Article 2 of the Constitution. The law will be operational 90 days from the date of publication in the Kenya Gazette which was on 3rd December 2021.
